FAQ

  1. How do I sign up for one of these tours?

Please follow the “Book this Tour Now” link on our website, or call our toll free reservation number, 800-843-1947, and speak to one of our friendly guest representatives.

  2. In Juneau, where do we meet for our helicopter tour?

You will be met on the pier by an Era representative for transportation to our heliport. The approximate drive time to the heliport is 15 minutes.

  3. Are there restroom facilities at your location? On the glacier?

Yes, and No. We have restroom facilities located at our heliports: however, once you are airborne and on the way to the glaciers, there are no facilities available. If you are taking the Dog Sled Adventure in Juneau we do have a port-a-potty at the dog sled camp, in addition to, the facility located at the heliport.

  4. How many people can fit into the helicopter? Will I get a window seat?

Each helicopter can hold up to six passengers plus the pilot. Seating is assigned based on center of gravity & weight considerations. Two passengers will be assigned in the front row and four passengers will be assigned in the back row. The two middle passengers in the back not only have exceptional views out of the side windows, but they also have unobstructed views through the front of the aircraft, offering a panoramic view of Alaska.

  5. Can I bring my backpack and camera bag?

The helicopters have no under-seat or overhead storage provisions so we kindly ask guests to claim-check all bags, including waist packs and camera cases, at our base for their safety and comfort inside the aircraft. This is in accordance with FAA regulations.

  6. What will we see? Will we see bears, goats, or moose?

Our flightseeing tours were created to view the beautiful Alaskan backcountry and awe-inspiring glaciers. Our pilots will point out all wildlife they see along the way, however, it is our policy not to harass wildlife by hovering, circling or decreasing altitude for wildlife viewing.

  7. I am physically challenged, can I still participate in these tours?

We want everyone to enjoy the beauty Alaska has to offer. Era Flightseeing offers wheelchair accessible transportation to our heliport as well as a chairlift for our helicopters on our Four Glacier Adventure in Juneau. This lift allows passengers with limited mobility access in and out of our helicopters at the heliport. While on the glacier you will remain in the helicopter and enjoy the beautiful backcountry and scenic vistas.

  8. What should I wear?

Although 50 degrees may be a beautiful day for Alaskans, some may find it a bit chilly. Our suggestion is to dress in layers so one is prepared for a variety of weather conditions including rain. Also, it is usually 10 degrees colder on a glacier than it is in town.

  9. Do you fly in the rain? What happens if my tour is cancelled?

We are blessed with an abundance of moisture which has helped create our beautiful glaciers. Safety has always been one of our main concerns and we will not fly in weather that will endanger the safety of our aircraft, pilots, or customers. If we must cancel your tour due to weather, a full refund will be given to you.

  10. Is it safe to bring an infant or lap child on the trip?

Due to safety issues, lap children are not allowed on flights. Although Era has allowed lap children in the past, we no longer accommodate lap children due to safety concerns for the child. Era is following an air carrier industry standard in which the FAA has recommended an approved child restraint system (CRS) for children under 2 years of age. Since we can not accommodate an FAA approved CRS we, in effect, must prohibit children less than 2 years of age.

  11. Can I take pictures?

Absolutely! Remember to bring extra film and batteries to capture your flightseeing adventure!
